The Yas Drag Racing Academy has been set up to help licensed drivers obtain a highly coveted National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) competition license. Its equipment includes two Top Fuel dragsters, a three-seat dragster, five Super Comp class dragsters and six 2010 462-bhp Camaros.
The Yas Drag Racing Academy awarded its first-ever scholarship to UAE driver Faisal Ali Al Shamsi in march after he drove his Pro 6 car to top place in his class with a standing-start quarter-mile time of 8.286 seconds and a terminal speed of 237.84 kph at the Yas Drag Racing Festival.
He will now take part in an intensive training programme under the personal tuition of Rod Fuller. He will be taught how to compete at world-class level in the Super Comp class – possibly becoming the first Emirati drag racer on the world stage.
