Drag Race Overview

The Yas Drag Racing Centre is a modern, purpose-built drag racing facility nestling within the Yas Marina Circuit complex. It is the only drag strip outside the United States that has been approved by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA).

Situated adjacent to the Formula 1 track, the Centre has two grandstands with a seating capacity of 5,000 and houses its own race control, hospitality and paddock area.

At the inaugural Yas Drag Racing Festival on 19-20 March, resident Top Fuel driver Rod Fuller became the fastest man on four wheels in the UAE when he hit a terminal speed of 499.97 kph in front of a capacity crowd. Fuller covered the standing-start quarter-mile (402 metres) in 3.898 seconds in his 8,000-horsepower dragster, setting another UAE record by just 1/1000th of a second. The previous fastest time was set by his teammate Tommy Johnson Jr the previous night at 3.899 seconds.

The next Yas Drag Racing Festival is planned for December 2010.
